Most employees are entitled to ten paid public holidays per year: New Year's Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Queen's Birthday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day (28th December in SA), Labour Day plus one other declared public holiday in your locality.

Most employees required to work on a public holiday are entitled to be paid at 2.5 times the ordinary rate.

Casuals do not get paid public holidays unless actually worked (see Casual Work Loading).

Victorian Minimum Wage Orders are silent about pay loadings for public holidays. This means the employee can be paid the same amount as any other day worked.

For a small fee - as little as $44 - Working Today can help you to understand your specific situation.
